The Glass Window Bridge. How it became central to the movie
Story of Finding Eleuthera
The original script for the The Glass Window movie did not call for any part of the story to take place in the Bahamas. However, after praying, Producer John McWhirter contacted his partner, Tim Paskert and stated,
“I think we are supposed to film in Eleuthera.”
“Great! Where is Eleuthera?” Tim responded.
“In the Bahamas.”
“Why do you think we need to go all the way to the Bahamas to film?”
“I’ve been praying about a new location and Eleuthera keeps coming into my mind and heart. Let’s go down and scout it.”
“Okay, but one question. How do you spell Eleuthera?”
John and Tim flew down to Eleuthera looking for film locations but they found so much more. During their visit they met many business owners, government officials, ex-patriots and native Eleutherians who were all kind and accommodating. John and Tim learned some interesting facts about the island. For example, missionaries first came to the island fleeing religious persecution and many believe it was the first Bahamian Island to hear the gospel.
This was all fascinating, but it was their meetings with numerous island ministry leaders from many different denominations and churches that began to open their hearts to the Lord’s call to film in Eleuthera.
John and Tim were blown away at how the island’s ministry leaders worked together for the glory of Christ. The leaders even met weekly to pray for each other and the island. Their unity in Christ bound by genuine love for each other was inspiring.
However, it was a routine location check that the Lord used to confirm Eleuthera was His choice. John drove Tim to look at this “freak of nature” called The Glass Window Bridge.
It was an ugly weather day, the beginning of what the locals call ‘a rage’. As the two men stood on the southeast coral cliff observing the incredible rage on one side and peace on the other the Holy Spirit laid on their hearts that they were to use God’s creation to reveal the need for God’s Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 1:20).
The scene that has become the trademark of The Glass Window movie was written in less than 30 minutes. Both men immediately realized this scene was the Lord’s message for the film and Eleuthera His chosen location.
